REBELFOODS TEAM SET FOR REAL ADVENTURE AT GODZone
Well known Queenstown adventure racers Mark Williams, Hadyn Keys, Lisa Bates and Baz Smith are looking forward to getting out into Tasman and Nelson’s wilderness areas in next weeks GODZone.
The squad only recently came together to compete in the 530km expedition length race and see it as a chance to have an adventure with mates.
“ It’s going to be a great adventure spending a whole week together and enjoying the region. It’s more about getting to experience all the unique aspects of the event itself rather than focusing on the competition,” says Haydn Key.

Key and Baz Smith raced to third place at the inaugural GODZone Chapter One back in 2012, and Smith says its an experience he is looking forward to repeating.
“ It was pretty special to be part of that first GODZone in Milford Sound and it turned out to be such an awesome race. This year we are definitely attracted to the Tasman event because Nathan Fa’avae has helped to design the course and we are keen to venture to some of those places that only he wants to showcase. It should be spectacular.”
Mark Williams who recently won The Pioneer alongside Olympic Mountain Bike hopeful Kate Fluker says the build up to GODZone for him personally has been very positive.
“ It feels like its meant to be and very good timing for GODZone. The multiday Pioneer was a great opportunity to train for this event and the winning for Kate and I just made it better.
Racing as the RebelFood teams is awesome. Kate is a Rebel Leader and she was using the Nutribombs when we were racing so I got to try them and really liked them. It’s nice to have a raw, natural alternative to eat while racing and not have to use too many gels and goos for energy.”
Fourth member of the team Lisa Bates says she looking forward to racing with the team after her crew from last year disintegrated.
“ We have only had a couple of training sessions together but everyone has been doing their own training so it should all come together during the week! It’s going to be heaps of fun.”
