Lake Herries Delivers Magic
Friday 9th March 2018
The Kepler Mountains have been the focal point for the last several days of racing where teams have moved between Fiordlands two great lakes – Manapouri and Te Anau. The mountains make up much of the northern shore of Manapouri and the South Fiord of Lake Te Anau.
Hidden at the top of the trek is a location every team is talking about…Lake Herries.
An alpine lake so remote most people will never experience its beauty.
Access is difficult with the only route by foot via the Kepler track or by helicopter.
The lake is the last checkpoint CP27 and the trek over before teams head over and down to TA6 via the Delta Burn. It is being manned by one of the world’s leading multisporters Braden Currie.
” Lake Herries is the spot most teams are commenting on. It’s been difficult for many of them to find but once they are there it delivers the magic,” says Course Director Adam Fairmaid.
