In preparation for the first ever North Island GODZone adventure race to be held in 2020, the event organisers, 100% Pure Racing, have today announced the official race dates.

“We are especially pleased to be bringing the world’s largest expedition adventure race to the Rotorua region as it is a highly anticipated location for the event,” says Event Director Warren Bates. “Chapter 9 will be held from the 19th to the 28th November 2020 and is expected to be one of the largest multiday adventure racing event ever held in New Zealand.”

Each year GODZone brings hundreds of adventure competitors from around the world together to take on the challenge of racing through New Zealand’s spectacular wilderness areas. Bates says Rotorua is proving to be a major drawcard.

“The interest generated around GODZone since we announced the location has been unprecedented and high profile adventure racing teams are champing at the bit to explore this fascinating region. ”

“ And what an adventure they are going to have. The terrain is wild in places and lends itself to an epic course that will test the navigators skills whilst delivering breath-taking scenery and solitude.”

GODZone Chapter 9 is pipped to be one of the longest in the events nine year history.

“ A combination of these factors have inspired us to deliver an Ultimate Edition of GODZone for Rotorua. This translates to a longer race duration, with the course open for 8 and a half days, meaning the teams will face some tough challenges to get to the finish. It will be another Chapter guaranteed to live long in the memory.”

GODZone is considered a bucket list event for many adventure racing teams the world over and each year limited team spots sell out rapidly. In 2019 a new team category Prime was introduced alongside the Pure (full length) and Pursuit (shorter format) racing options.

Bates says he expects entries will be hotly contested and places will be limited.

“Chapter 9 race spots will open on the 1st September 2019. All the details on team entry will be unveiled in July on the official GODZone website. This Ultimate Edition of GODZone is going to be very special and a unique first time adventure into the volcanic wonders of the North Island. Rotorua is going to deliver something truly epic. Don’t miss out. ”
